Gear and Equipment
 Colorado State University wants you to ride safely around campus. Safety and traffic regulations are enforced on campus.

  • Wear a helmet. Helmets have been proven to save lives.
  • If you are younger than 18 you must wear a helmet to operate or be a passenger on a motorcycle or scooter.
  • Eye protection is required for everyone – driver and all passengers.
  • Use a headlight as soon as the sun begins to set and at night.

Clothing
 Nothing can make riding your motorcycle or bike more miserable than missing the weather forecast and getting surprised by an unexpected rain or snow storm. With the right gear and a thought out plan, many individuals ride their motorcycles, scooters, and bicycles throughout the entire year.

  • Watch the weather forecast so you are aware of road conditions and temperatures or extremes in which you will be riding.
  • Consider what you will need to wear to stay protected and warm.
  • Wear sturdy shoes which will help with traction, maneuverability, and braking.

Traveling On Campus

  • Motorcycles and scooters are a motorized vehicle that require a valid driver’s license and insurance to operate.
  • Drive as close to the right side of the road as possible and that is safe for you and vehicles parked on the side of the road.
  • Splitting the lane and riding side-by-side with another motorcycle, scooter or vehicle on campus is prohibited.
  • Do not hold onto another person’s vehicle and have them pull your motorcycle or scooter while you are driving.
  • Only have as many people can be on the motorcycle or scooter as the motorcycle or scooter is equipped to carry (in most cases this is one passenger).
  • It is prohibited to carry anything within your hands while driving a motorcycle or scooter on campus.
  • Design your route to save time. Avoid construction areas in the city and on campus to prevent the need for additional maintenance due to dirt, rocks or debris.
